Due to the Crossref update and migration on July 8-9, 2025, eXtyles users will need to install the following patch to ensure that eXtyles is still able to run Crossref Linking and Correction when the downtime is over:

https://webdav.literatumonline.com/inera-common-patches/eXtylesCrossrefPatch2025-07-18.zip

Once extracted from the zip file, please copy the file CrossRefDflt.xar to the location listed below:

C:/Program Files/eXtyles/OMServer

(Or, if you are running 32-bit Office, the directory is: C:/Program Files (x86)/eXtyles/OMServer)

If you downloaded a previous version of the patch that also contains LinkRefs.xvc, please do NOT patch that file. Apply only the file CrossRefDflt.xar to your OMServer directory. If you are running an eXtyles build number lower than 5331, applying the LinkRefs.xvc patch will cause problems running most Advanced Processing steps.

This update changes the way eXtyles queries Crossref from a static IP to a full URL. Depending on your security settings, your IT department may need to make some additional adjustments to your firewall after the patch is installed.

eXtyles formerly queried Crossref with this base IP address: https://208.254.38.80

and now uses this base URL prefix: https://doi.crossref.org

so a full query looks something like this:

Note that in the above example, the username (usr) and password (pwd) are XXXX and YYYY
respectively. An actual query would contain your organization’s Crossref credentials in place of these variables. These credentials are hardwired into your organization’s Crossref Checking or Correction module, and can be found in ZZZLinkRefsCrossref.xar, located in the eXtyles\ZZZ\Data\ directory (where ZZZ is your organization acronym). Your Crossref credentials can be found in the following two lines of that file:

-d gstLRP_ServiceLogin XXXX
-d gstLRP_ServicePassword YYYY

Since eXtyles does not query through a browser, but rather a direct HTTP call from the eXtyles software, the firewall must be configured to allow queries that come from an application other than a browser. Access to the base URL shown above must be open for the user of eXtyles. eXtyles uses port 80 for these queries, so this port must also be open.

Please contact extyles-support@inera.com if you have any questions.
